I felt the same way at first until I re-watched the second season at an anime club knowing in advance that she's a basket case. They could have done some better writing in the anime to hint at this, because they skipped an entire volume of the book where this part of her character was exposed. That's why it wasn't a "great" anime for me either. But then, both are light novel adaptations and I've noticed those generally suffer when adapted into anime. Yeah, I hear you about Horo. She really just ruined the whole anime for me. That's my fear with Bakemonogatari as well. That’s my fear with Bakemonogatari as well. I tend to not like shows that people go gaga over.
