365 Days of Anime Characters: Day 284/365 Saya Otonashi

Day 284/365

Saya Otonashi

From the anime Blood The Last Vampire, Saya Otonashi is apparently the last remaining vampire and hunts down bat-like monsters called chiropterans for a secret organization known as the Red Shield. Her weapon of choice is a katana and it helps that she has super human strength.

Why I like her: She kicks some major ass. She always seems to be one step ahead of everyone. I also enjoy that she can walk around in sunlight and it isn't that big of a deal. She also has a dislike of religion and god when others speak of it around her. Nothing is more annoying than a religion and god topic when you just don't like it or care at all about it.

Why I hate her: She's too kick ass to hate and I generally love hating on vampires.

Overall: I got to watch Blood+ later on next year cause I think it'll be a vampire show I'll actually enjoy. Can't say I'm brave enough to watch the live action movie though.

Live action can't be that bad right? Maybe...

Should be interesting ^_^

The live action was pretty awful…but Jun Ji-hyun (or Gianna Jun now?) was good. She’s one of my favorite actresses – slips pretty seemlessly from romance to comedy to action. Have you seen “My Sassy Girl?” She’s pretty quirkily awesome in that. 😛

YES!!! I love this movie, and Saya! Great stuff! She’s a kick ass vampire, for sure!

As for the live action movie, I liked it. Clearly no masterpiece, but a fun flick. I do think the movie falls off a cliff (quite literally…the moment the characters drive off a cliff the movie does…), but the first 2/3rd of the movie was so good, i really don’t care. It’s a decent adaptation of a great little movie. And again just how the anime movie captured it, this live action film grabbed and held onto that pre/early vietnam feeling that is oh-so-interesting. Great pick!
