Day 313/365

From the anime Kanashimi no Belladonna, Jeanne is a sweet, innocent peasant woman who is in love with the man of her dreams, Jean. Just before they are to marry, Jean finds out he needs to pay a tax to the baron to do so. This is money they don't have and shockingly Jeanne ends up being raped by the baron. After this traumatizing event, Jeanne's life spins into an uncontrollable downward spiral.

Why I like her: She keeps going no matter what is thrown her way (it's a lot) and ends up being a very powerful symbol.

Why I hate her: Everything that happens to this poor woman is just so wrong...

Overall: If you loved the art in Gankutsuou you should totally check out the beauty that inspired it from Belladonna.

This is one of my favourite shots from the film because those eyes are so powerful.

While Gankutsuou was beautiful in stills, while the show was playing it gave me a headache sometimes. It got better the more I watched it, but it did screw me up a bit. A shame because I thought it all looked very nice. Anyway I loved that series because of how powerful of a thriller it was. And I also just loved the elegance of it all! Plus it helps that the core of the story was excellent, as it should be being based on a great classic novel.

Anyway I’d still love to check this out. This too loves like each still will be a work of art. And the plot seems interesting, although a bit depressing. Sadly I’ll probably never see it though. But thanks for making me take notice of it at least.
