365 Days of Anime Characters: Day 345/365 Ahiru

Day 345/365

From the anime Princess Tutu, Ahiru is a duck who was transformed into a young girl by Drosselmeyer with a magical pendant. She takes ballet at a private school where she meets a lot of new friends and foes. If Ahiru removes the pendant or quacks while talking in her human form, she will change back into a duck and the only way to go back to a human form is to touch water while wearing the pendant. The magical pendant also helps her transform into Princess Tutu. In this form she can dance to mend the hearts of those in pain around her.

Why I like her: Determined and light-hearted I suppose. I kind of liked her more in the duck form... Her hair is pretty darn cute though.

Why I hate her: Clumsy even though she's suppose to be really graceful. I just couldn't get into her character at all since I don't have any passion or experience with dancing. Especially of the ballet form.

Overall: I don't regret watching this anime but I sure won't ever watch it again.

Ahiru in Ducky form.

Princess Tutu is a weird show because it was somehow tough and easy for me to get into at the same time. I love crazy old fairy tales (back when they were violent and sadistic and whatnot), so I enjoyed that aspect of the series, but for the longest time there was also this emotional distance I had … I couldn’t really get behind the characters until almost the very end.

Yeah that was one of my biggest issues with it as well. That and I kept almost falling asleep…

Princess Tutu is a a show I still have to finish. Saw more then half of it, and loved what I saw though. Duck/Tutu is a great character. Nice pick!
