365 Days of Anime Characters: Day 347/365 Yukino Miyazawa

Day 347/365

Yukino Miyazawa

From the anime Kare Kano, Yukino Miyazawa is a perfect model student that everyone compliments and looks up to. Yukino works really hard to get this praise and feels the need to get more and more of it. This all changes when she meets, Soichiro Arima, another perfect model student that is even better than she is at everything it seems! Now the battle is on to try and top him in everything and anything he does. But will his confession to her stand in the way of her succeeding?

Why I like her: She protects herself. Putting on a mask for others at school to see is one of the best things a person can do at that age sometimes! I love how she looks and generally acts like a complete slob at home but when she leaves the house she looks and acts perfect. Her family is wonderfully supportive of her even though she is quite odd in this manor. Her blossoming relationship with Soichiro was such a pleasure to watch.

Why I hate her: Not at all oddly enough!

Overall: I've been very very very VERY slowly collecting the manga of this because I know it goes a whole lot further than the anime did. If for some reason, someday, I'd love to see this series remade.

Dawwwwwww... Yukino and Soichiro are so cute.

Miyazawa is bar none my favorite romantic comedy protagonist. She is the greatest. So dynamic, so energetic, so intelligent, so cunning … so many adjectives. Everyone — man or woman — could learn a thing or two from her.

  3. A really great character, and far too good for Arima in my opinion. It was a joy to watch her in both her ‘mask’ and as she changed over time. Not even that last episode can make me dislike her or the series, and maybe some day I’ll get to the manga. Once it all comes out in the collected paperbacks.

  5. I liked Arima at first, but by the end I really couldn’t overlook or forgive his stupid bouts of emo jealousy, and most of all, him hitting/pushing Yukino. I don’t care what kind of emotional baggage someone has, physical violence is crossing the line.

Ah yeah… I don’t really condone the violence either. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it so I kinda forgot about that part. His emo/jealous side though that was ok by me cause even real life people act like that at times heh

I love Yukino. She made the show for me. I totally understand her and knew what she was going through. Despite being a guy, I related more to her then Arima. She’s a lot like me, and she also reminds me of a good friend from my past. This series always brings back good old memories for me. It’s a great show, one of the best romance/dramas in anime. And although it has some slight problems, it’s still something everyone needs to see. I never read the manga, but I love what Anno did with the show.
