At the end of last year Digiboy made an awesome list. I looked through this awesome list and found 8 shows that I hadn't seen yet and decided I would try to watch them all this year. I think very highly of Digiboy's taste in anime so I knew that I was going to be in for some real treats.

#1 Genshiken 10/10

So many people were shocked that I hadn't seen this anime before. But I knew that I had to wait for the right moment to watch an otaku show like this. I watched Otaku no Video and didn't enjoy it at all early on in my anime watching "career". This is an anime I must re-watch with a keener eye knowing all I do now about anime. I knew that this was going to be the case with Genshiken so I waited. I figured that now having watched well over 2500 anime titles it was time. And boy oh boy was it ever GREAT! No actually more like... AMAZING! It captured everything in the right kind of light about otaku and anime culture. Good sides of it, bad sides of it everything was done perfectly.

#2 Kamichu 9/10

Others had been bothering me to watch this show for a few years now but I always tossed it aside because the idea of it just seemed weird to me. Once I finally sat down and watched it boy was I ever wrong about it. First of all I had no idea there were so many cats in this show. I love cats so that's always a nice bonus. Everything about this show was realistic. But... How can a girl that becomes a God be realistic you might be wondering. Honestly supernatural plot aside it was a wonderful story about coming of age, school troubles, and romance. Which generally I don't care about unless it is done WELL. And this show does everything well!

#3 Kyouran Kazoku Nikki 9/10

Random anime which turned out to be very funny. Sometimes when there are too many quirky characters in a show they get lost and the viewer just doesn't care because "everyone" is weird in it. But somehow this show balances the strangeness of the characters and plot very well. Most of the time it was random good fun but then they would hit you with some serious shit that is so serious you are like WOW didn't see that coming!

#4 Darker Than Black 8/10

It shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone that I enjoyed this show. I actually was a tad disappointed that it wasn't better to be honest. I think I just had too high of expectations for it because I don't really know anyone that dislikes it. Hei is awesome~

#5 Neo Ranga 8/10

What a treasure this anime was! With 48 delightful 10 minute episodes I wasn't expecting much from a show about girls who get powers over a robot. But well once again I was proven wrong! I love it when an anime actually exceeds my expectations. The character development in this show was amazing honestly and that alone really blew me away. As I got closer and closer to the end I felt myself wanting to watch the next episode more and more until suddenly it was over. Everyone should really watch this hidden treasure!

#6 The SoulTaker 7/10

This show was quite the experience. I still don't really know how I feel about it so I think I'll watch it again someday. When a show conflicts my feelings in that way it is generally a good thing.

#7 Pani Poni Dash 6/10

This was a really cute comedy and I totally see why a lot of people love it. I felt there was just too much hit and miss to it for me. When it was funny it was HILARIOUS. When it was dull man was it ever dull. I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to shows like this but overall I'd still call this a quality anime.

#8 Bamboo Blade 5/10

This is the only show that I just couldn't get into. I'm not sure what I was expecting from it honestly but whatever it was I didn't get. I can't really see the appeal of the show either. I regret making my boyfriend watch this show with me under the assumption that I thought he'd like it. He complained all the way through it so that might have added to my dislike of it overall. I did like that teacher dude in it though so at least there's that.

I’m surprised you basically liked them all except one! I’d defend Bamboo Blade but I haven’t seen it since it aired and I don’t remember *anything* except how moe Tama-chan was.

heh. I’ve only seen Kyouran no Kazoku Nikki, Bamboo Blade and parts of Genshiken. I haven’t finished it because my old computer seemed to hate the version I downloaded and I’ve yet to try it with this new laptop.
So commenting on the ones I’ve seen.

    KKN:
Digiboy’s finish or fail post on KKN sent waves of mad nostalgia flowing through me as it was one of the anime in some of my first attempts to keep up with currently airing shows. Mostly Fujimura Ayumi’s motormouth sticks out in my mind these days. That and the various EDs and their respective singles that have awesome remixed versions. (None of which I am having any luck finding on youtube)

Bamboo Blade: B-b-b-b-but DAAAAN-KUN!; MIYA MIYA! DAAAAN-KUUUUN. Actually looking at videos for this series makes me want to go watch it again. Course you and I both know that Bamboo Blade is probably up on Digiboy’s list because of Kawazoe Tamaki. I myself was a Saya and Kirino fan.

With Genshiken …I like the little anime withint the anime, more then the show its self. It’s still good though. I thin k I rank it a 7/10. Pani Poni Dash I rate 9/10, it;s one of the funniest comedies I’ve seen. And Bamboo Blade I only saw the first few episodes, but god I love it. Nice post!

I watched Bamboo Blade when I was still an innocent and naive anime nerd and because of that I was able to enjoy it. I still remember bits and pieces of the story and have since read the manga too. It wasn’t anything special but it wasn’t bad at all.

Genshiken is right where it’s belong.

I didn’t watch Genshiken yet though I have both seasons downloaded (actually I think I watched one or two eps but didn’t continue on so far).

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki was really awesome though XD it’s so random, but yeah when it gets serious it hits you in the face really hard. Like how the jellyfish was a goddess that some galactic big guy was in love with. I love it so much! I can’t remember her name, but my favorite character is the white haired sadistic girl, and her ED character song was so cute too~

@digital boy I was surprised too. I really didn’t expect to enjoy KKN or Kamichu much. Even if you tried to defend Bamboo Blade like you I only remember one thing about the show and that’s the hobo teacher XD

@taka haha yeah digiboy and i talked on twitter a lot last night over why he liked that character the most~

@predederva…. That anime in the anime was TERRIBLE. and yes I watched the series that they actually made from it… for some reason… so bad!

@kluxorious i know i’m very much in the minority when it comes to bamboo blade love… but maybe if i watched it before my watched count got well over 2000 hell even 1000 i think i could have dug it!

@Anya Genshiken you really have to be ready for otakuness in your face to REALLY get into it. and yes the ED to KKN was awesome. all the characters were so much fun. gotta say i liked the robot/alien like kid~
