On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me,
Four Vancouver Anime Moments,
Three Anime Games,
and Legend of the Galactic Heroes Keychains
Clearly as these 12 days posts are going along it is obvious that I'm just making most of the things that happened to me this year kinda relate to anime. Don't worry though there are some posts that will actually be about anime for the anime. heh
For a well deserved vacation this year the boyfriend and I went to Vancouver to visit a friend that normally comes to us during the summer. A Toronto friend of ours came along with us too since he generally shows up here during that time as well. Double the friend pleasure in a new place!! I had been to Vancouver once before so I was looking forward to returning, especially since this time was with the boyfriend. We did a lot of things and had a really good time. There were of course some very high ups, hello going to a brewery, and some downs, hello being late for the flight home thus costing us an extra $500 we didn't have... But all in all the visit rocked and I do look forward to going back for another visit. Maybe next time I'll make some effort to meet some of the twitter folk out there I "know". 😛
During the flight there and back the bf and I decided to watch Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. He didn't watch it with me when it aired so he thought it was something he should finally get around to watching. I'm not the hugest fan of the show since I only thought it was ok, but I was all for a re-watch because maybe it would change my mind about it or something. Hilariously enough before we even got started on Madoka we ended up watching a few inflight movies. So we never ended up finishing off the series and will likely have to start again because I think we left off around ep 6 or 8, I honestly can't remember and neither can he. Maybe we'll just watch the movies instead!
There's this street in Vancouver that we frequently walked by during our visit. It was called Haro Street. So of course every time I walked by and saw the street sign I would say Haro Haro like Haro does in Gundam. The boyfriend nor my friends aren't Gundam fans so they never really understood why I did this every time. I did explain to them but they were just like "...ok..." But well it amused me and hopefully it amuses you Gundam fans too. Teehehehe~
While we were out and about the boyfriend really wanted me to get something special or well anything at all. I didn't want to spend extra money on things like that because money was tight enough since we were already on this trip, so I only really wanted to splurge on food and beverages. He was very insistent though. Our friend took us shopping several days and one of those days we ended up in a comic shop that sold lots of anime goods. I enjoy going in these stores but generally just look around and leave without anything. I didn't even see the mug sitting on the shelf honestly, the boyfriend did though and was like "I'M GETTING YOU THIS!" I tried to say no but he insisted. I now have this very adorable Natsume Yuujinchou mug with Nyanko-sensei on it and it brings me much joy when I drink tea out of it. 🙂
I've been an Anime-Planet member now for many, many years. Sothis and I have been good friends for most of those years but we never meet in the flesh before. Since she lives in Seattle and was coming up to Canada for a weekend while I was actually in Vancouver, we just couldn't pass up this chance to meet. We went to lunch at this adorable little place and chatted away while a venus flytrap trap sat upon our table listening in. Anime, manga, video games, life and anything else that was on our minds was talked about! Eventually we moved on to her hotel where she checked into a crazy huge room. It was like... bigger than the apartment I was staying at while visiting Vancouver! We then moved down to the hotel restaurant/bar (which was an adventure of its own trying to find it) where many drinks were consumed and eventually our significant others and my friends showed up. A few more drinks later more talk about anime, video games and music, it was time to say good-bye. Twas very nice meeting her and I'm sure another meeting is somewhere else in our future.
Gundam Wing <3
These kids are rich brats and it totally shows! I'm alright with that though since the girl uniforms are kinda cute. Maroon is an interesting colour and oddly enough the pink vest actually looks good! I like the fancy ruffles on the white shirt too. They also match the boy uniforms very well even though the boys just wear black with an awesome orange vest. The bow ties for both genders are rather adorable too.
Overall: I guess haha.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 has pretty much nothing to do with school life unless you count taking the "normal lives" away from those that get involved with the bigger picture in this Gundam Universe. Poor little Saji!
This "uniform" isn't even really a uniform since the school they go to doesn't seem to enforce such a thing. Ahhh, the future! But Saji's school outfit that we see him wearing the first few episodes of Season 1, is clearly trying to pander to a typical boy uniform we see in all other anime.
He wears a white long sleeved shirt but rolls it up like a t-shirt. Why he doesn't just wear an actual t-shirt is beyond me but well maybe he gets cold when he's off screen! He wears a snazzy red tie and a blue sweater vest that compliment each other quite well. I don't normally like sweater vests at all but Saji pulls it off... somehow... The brown pants and shoes are a nice change from the typical black pants and shoes we see all other anime boys wearing. Overall it's a very simple outfit but clearly gets the point across that Saji just wants to be a school kid.
Overall: If I wanted to crossdress... Even then I don't think so...
More kiddy shounen shows aired this fall that I didn't watch. Another season of Digimon Xros Wars, Battle Spirits, and Cross Fight B-Daman. I watched the Tamayura OVA when it came out last year and was bored to tears. Decided that it was best to start actually not watching shows I won't like and put Tamayura: Hitotose on my won't watch list. Sengoku Paradise: Kiwami I would have watched if I could find subs of it. Something tells me they won't show up for a long time if ever. I know it's about pretty boys and all but the episodes are 3 minutes long!
A lot of falls (still airing) shows might end up with a rating change (the 7-8 ones) but for now this is how they stand. I'm excited to see how much better Gundam Age can get for me. It's been quite fun so far. Bakuman 2 is going strong so far and I'm very happy that we can all look forward to a Bakuman 3 next fall! Ben-To, Persona 4, and Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere were a lot of fun to watch. I'm happy with how they went from me wondering if they would be good to being AMAZING. Persona 4 is continuing on into winter so there's more to look forward to of that.
Best Show of fall should be Last Exile: Fam but since it's still airing I'm going to award this honour to Fate/Zero. As said before I haven't played any of the games but I did watch Fate/stay night and enjoyed it a lot. So much that I even re-watched it before Zero aired so the bf could experience it. I can't wait for S2! What a mean cliffhanger to leave us with.
Worst Show of fall is of course Mashiro-Iro Symphony. Eroge. Harem. Yeah...
Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of fall 2011:

Surprise enjoyment: Guilty Crown simply because everyone else in the whole wide world likes to hate on it. How I'm not a hater with the haters is amazing honestly but I like the damn show! Kimi to Boku could have gone either way for me honestly. Something drew me into it though and it may or may not have to do with cats~ Can't wait for more come spring. Chihayafuru is super girly for me but this 'Karuta' game they play keeps me interested. I'm not fond of her or the game but I do like watching them play it.
Surprise fail: Honestly there were no anime that I found bad that I thought weren't going to be already. That just further proves how awesome the fall season of 2011 has been!
Honorable mentions: High Score & Chibi Devi! I'm actually blogging! Un-Go was everything that Shinrei Tantei Yakumo wanted to be. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai I wanted to like very much but deep down I knew it wouldn't be for me. It just drove me crazy with the 3 main characters being very unlikable as well. Phi Brain is the funnest shounen to sit back and enjoy... As long as you like puzzles... It helps when the very awesome tweets by @fathomlessblue are around to be read for it too!
On the Seventh Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me,
Seven Franchise Continuations,
Six Top Tier Anime,
Five Nyanpire Kitties,
Four Marvel Anime,
Two Anime Buddy Challenges,
and an Underrated Anime
I love it when anime just keeps going and going. Or in some cases gets an update from old to new. Or when we get a new universe with things we are already familiar with! New twists and turns are fun and all of these titles were pleasing in some way or another. Some more so than others...
#1 Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing
Another story from one of my top 100 anime? HELL YES. I was afraid it wouldn't live up to my expectations but it has delivered! How can I hate a show that has a shout out to hockey!
I've always been a fan of the Fate series. I haven't played it but I don't really have the time to get sucked into it either. I'd probably never be heard from again or something! Zero has rebooted the Fate series going back to the last war before Night. I'm enjoying it so much and I know I'm not alone.
#3 Suite Pretty Cure
My favourite of all the Pretty Cure series so far. It made me remember the first Pretty Cure anime and ended up making it so much better. I was expecting the worst with music being it's main theme but I've been delightfully surprised on how awesome it is. Looking forward to the next one!
#4 Gundam Age
Most people wrote this Gundam off before it even started stating it was going to be too "kiddy" I've gotten nothing but pure enjoyment out of the next Gundam installment. I think I'm just really glad I have a space show to look forward to every week for the next year or so.
#5 Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera
A new and updated version of Dororon Enma-kun and having not seen the first one makes me want to watch it even more after this fun show.
This was summers so bad it's good anime. There was never a moment where I wasn't laughing at how silly the whole show was.
#7 Appleseed XIII
I love Appleseed and all but... No one likes this show. It's amazing that a sub group is still doing it. Slowly, but it'll get done.
