Ladies Versus Butlers takes place at a school full of rich girls who get to "help" a few lucky people go through the servant education program.
Girl uniforms are plain but there's enough diversity between characters to make them interesting. They wear a pink/red skirt that has a white trim around the bottom. The jacket has those weird poofy shoulder pads on them and big white cuffs that are rather cute considering. They get to wear a big yellow bow with a nice gem in the middle. There are a lot of different coloured bows that we see during the anime which was nice. Under their jacket they wear a plain white shirt that has a red stripe coming up the middle. They also have the choice of wearing those craptastic school sweaters that are in the ugly pale yellow shade.
There are very few boys in this anime but what they wear isn't really anything special. It's a typical butler style uniform. All black with a long jacket that has one button in the middle. There are some gray trimming on it and they wear a short tie with a pin in it to keep it in place on their white shirt under the jacket. We get to see the girl gym uniforms once but there's nothing really amazing about those either. Plain dark blue shorts with a white t-shirt.
Overall: I'll pass on wearing this one. That colour wouldn't suit me I think.
Like last year I made it a goal to watch everything that aired this year. With a few exceptions of course. Season 2 of shows I haven't seen were counted out and shows that I had seen a lot of but knew I couldn't just stomach anymore. Yup that means no Hidamari Sketch for me this winter! I still can't stand that so many seasons of it are being made... Cobra The Animation was the only other show I didn't watch that aired. It is something I've been wanting to watch for a while and this as certainly bumped it up in my want to watch list. Here we go with Winter's Aired Anime.
Winter actually was a really short season with only 13 shows that aired. Katanagatari started but it only showed one episode per month for the entire year so I don't quite count it. Only 2 shows ended up being 24 episodes (Durarara and Qwaser) and carried onto Spring where all the others were 12-13 episodes. So everything pretty much ended for new spring anime to take over the airwaves.
Winter honestly was a pretty boring season. It had some winners but half my list is on the lower half, out of 10 score wise for only 13 series... Everything was new except for Hidamari Sketch, Cobra, and Heartcatch but since I only started Heartcatch that didn't really matter to me. I was expecting new and fresh from everything but all I got was lame and crappy for the most part.
Katanagatari did something new. Something I haven't ever really seen before. Well in more ways than one honestly. Some of it was cliche like the one episode per sword capture type deal but mostly it was unique. The art and music were amazing and not to mention that you only got one episode per month! That was something special to me. I had always honestly wondered why no one had ever really done a show like that before (There might have been but I'm too lazy to research it) spanning an entire year with 12, 45 minute episodes. Generally I hate shows that have long air dates but Katanagatari was reliable for when it was going to come out. So I knew I would get my show once a month no matter what.
Best Show of winter for me, aside from Katanagatari because that is the winner for overall best anime of 2010 was Durarara. I was looking forward to it from the moment I saw it announced. I watched the first episode and wrote a little something about it and then I actually ended up waiting till it was finished to watch anymore. I'm SO glad I waited too because there's nothing worse than waiting to see one of your favourite shows one episode at a time over many, many weeks. Some people love that but I just can't stand it with something I'm totally into.
Worst Show of winter for me would be Chu-Bra... Even though it's THE only series I have "successfully" blogged all the way through... ._. ...I love panties but not from the eyes of a 12 year old. I'm not even going to chew this anime out anymore. I think I've done that enough already. Urrg.
Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of winter 2010:
- Durarara 10/10
- Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu 8/10
- Hanamaru Youchien 7/10
- Sora no Woto 7/10
- Heartcatch Pretty Cure (still airing) 6/10
- Seikon no Qwaser 5/10
- Dance In The Vampire Bund 4/10
- Ookami Kakushi 4/10
- Ladies Versus Butlers 4/10
- Omamori Himari 2/10
- Chu-Bra 1/10
Surprise enjoyment: Hanamaru Youchien I expected to be just another one of those perverted school kid shows that everyone thinks is cute. It ended up being much, much more.
Surprise fail: Ookami Kakushi I don't even know what that was...
Honorable mentions: Cobra I honestly can't wait to sink my teeth into. I put off watching the new one because I haven't seen the old. This is something I shall be completing in the year to come for sure. Sora no Woto I actually expected to hate a lot more than I ended up. It was total win though. Well not total, it could have been a little less slice of war life like and a little more awesome even though what was there in general was pretty darn awesome. I'm still not sure of my overall thoughts of the show. Heartcatch has brought Pretty Cure back up to my magical girl standards. It was shattered with Fresh last year so I was expecting the worst. Thankfully I got the best. Seikon no Qwaser I think digiboy said it best here "purposefully awesomely bad".

From the anime Ladies versus Butlers!, Daichi Kaoru is a girl yet she is going through the program as a male because her dad wished her to, so everyone thinks she really is a boy. She is Akiharu's roommate and is very concerned about her gender becoming known to him.
Why I like her: Daichi is a very hard worker. She knows what she wants to accomplish and does more than her best to do it. I enjoyed everyone fawning over her thinking she was a boy.
Why I hate her: Constantly getting upset at Akiharu was rather annoying. Be happy you weren't discovered >.<
Overall: As far as traps go Daichi was the same as the rest but she still was pretty interesting.
Ladies versus Butlers!
Loli Pina gives Akiharu a thank you ticket for two to Aqualand for helping her out with the doujin. He walks randomly to where the face off is happening and once he realizes that they are there at the fountain too he looks as dumbfounded as ever. Harem males are always so dumb...
Randomly they end up in a classroom to discuss their views. Croissant hair starts asking lots of questions about their date even though she knows most of it already. Akiharu walks in on them again but this time the tickets are in full view. Each girl clearly wants to go but the schemer starts playing her games when a random announcement by the oh so annoying one that gives the terrible speeches tells the whole school that there will be a sports meet. yay.....
As all relationships should be in anime, this one shall be decided through school sports... Different teams. One winner. Wild rumour start to go around at what the winner will get to do along with the looser. Let the games begin.
What is that fruitcake doing?
Watching these strange games is very very weird... What the hell is with the EELS?????? Eaten later by staff??? WEIRD!
Who will win Akiharu? XD
For once this anime shocked me in a good way instead of a bad one. The opening with the Revolutionary Girl Utena reference was LOL. Lots of anime this season sure have been putting their own take on some older anime.
The schools cultural festival is happening and the girls of the pantsu club help out other clubs because they technically can't be a part of it on their own. The drama club is putting on a play and they want Hayama to make the costumes and the other girls in the club to be in the play as well. They have all kinds of interesting costumes to go with it too. The cafe needs some maid costumes and they ask Hayama as well to do it for them.
Trouble unfolds as the bitch teacher finds out about Kiyono's photo shoot in the magazine and wishes to shut everything down because of it. Boob teacher pleads for her to go and look at the costumes that Hayama has made before making her judgment. Surprisingly she ends up loving the costumes and actually fends off a male teacher that suddenly appears to chew Hayama out.
After that happy ending with the show able to go on. Hayama finally tells the girls that she won't be around next year because of her brothers transfer. Kiyono knew all along and spilled it to Komachi. Komachi confronts Hayama about it and she begs him not to tell the others because she wants to let them know in her own way.
Will they really move in the next episode or not that is the question. I'm thinking something will happen so they won't have to. Or she'll be able to stay behind. I'd like it if they just moved on. Less chance of a sequel that way 😛
Oh and yes there was some fanservice in this episode. Hayama just NEEDED to see Kiyono matching bra and panties. I will admit I think they are cute and would wear them myself.
