Catch Up with FALL! January 15-16 Anime-Planet’s Monthly Marathon

It's that time for another Monthly Marathon Event called Catch Up, with Anime-Planet hosted by me. Click on the image below to see the anime list. It's all Fall 2010 anime so if you haven't watched everything you wanted to now is the perfect time to do it as there will be people around to chat with!

I've been hosting these events over on Anime-Planet for a whole year now and I gotta say it's been a blast. If you haven't checked out Anime-Planet in general you should as it is always growing! It's a great place to keep all your watched, watching, etc anime in check so you always know what you are doing with each show you watch. You can love and hate anime characters and even voice actors. New features and improvements are added pretty often and it generally doesn't take that long for a minor request to be filled. The newest feature is anime badges which are similar to X-box ones that you can unlock with certain anime that are watched or other random accomplishments. Tis all very fun stuff and more of those are going to be added soon. If you are the winner of this event you'll even win one!

Satoshi Kon Tribute September 24-27 Anime-Planet: Monthly Marathon

Along with Anime-Planet, and since I'm busy this month I've passed on the responsibility to my partner on AP for this event, TheOmnipotentLemur, this Monthly Marathon Event is a tribute to Satoshi Kon. We all mourned the day he was taken from us and he'll be missed greatly. Click on the image below to see the anime list.

The only anime that Satoshi Kon did that I haven't seen is Paranoia Agent so I'll be watching that for sure. I'm excited for it since I've heard nothing but good things about it. He had a small part (Episode 5) to do with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure so I'll probably watch that too. I think it's going to be a lot of violence and action. Texhnolyze is on my want to watch list to finish before the year ends so I'm going for it. I have mixed feelings on it though. And of course there is Monster. A series I've been trying to start ALL YEAR but just can't bring myself to actually push play. I load it into the player and end up watching something else. XD I probably won't end up watching it yet again, but who knows!

I highly recommend watching any of the movies on this list. Satoshi Kon had a part in all of them and they are all truly amazing stories. I might just sit through Millennium Actress again since I think that is my favourite. It's really hard to choose between them all.

Teachers love teaching students!

I'm going to finish watching Tenshi na Konamaiki because I started it way back when I went to Anime Boston and never picked it back up again. I was going to watch it more on the way to and fro from Anime North (post coming for that in a few days I swear) but I actually ended up sleeping the entire time we were driving. I do remember being totally blown away by how good this series was in those first 15 episodes I did manage to get through. I can't wait to watch more!

G Gundam! A perfect mix of Manly and Mecha!

I'm going to tackle another one of the Gundam titles. Turn A Gundam. I've heard nothing but good things about this series and I can't wait to dive into it. I'm going to be watching it with a buddy over on Anime-Planet too which shall make it all the more fun.

If people haven't seen Toriko yet I highly encourage to give it a watch. It's a half an hour OVA about a man who hunts for rare "food" so he can cook it and have a delicious meal! Very awesome, very hilarious.

I plan on catching up as much as I can with Gintama. Especially since it's the only show I haven't seen on the list. I love the series to bits and think this shall be a good time to re-watch it all right from the beginning.

Cults Monthly Marathon

I won't be doing this marathon as I have a lot of other stuff to be catching up on like Macross and Gundam. Curse you Olymipcs you stole away my February goal of finishing ALL of Macross! Yay Canada though ^__^" I highly suggest Rose of Versailles for a viewing pleasure.

I hosted the Christmas event so I've passed on the responsibility to my partner on AP for this event, TheOmnipotentLemur. He kindly put together some wonderful romance anime (with my help later on) to celebrate what February is known for, Valentine's Day. Valentines Monthly Marathon

I have decided on the following:

Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~
Suzuka
Myself; Yourself
Honey and Clover (Both Seasons)

All but Myself; Yourself is on my wtw list that I wish to finish watching this year. I'm looking forward to Honey and Clover as I've heard a lot of good things about it over the past little while. I'm hoping Suzuka will end up being a surprise win but we'll see. I don't have much faith in the other 2. All in all, it should be a good weekend of anime. I'll be throwing in some hockey too because it is the starting weekend of the Olympics of course.

(made that logo myself lol) Catch Up is a special event that I created for people to get caught up with the anime season that just ended so they can be in the loop about all the shows people are still buzzing about. My Christmas marathon was a lot of fun but I always find these Catch Up events more entertaining for some reason. If you aren't a part of AP already I urge you to join! The site has a lot of awesome features and it is always adding more each day. Currently AP is working on a Character DB which will make way for a Staff DB soon after. Very exciting stuff!

Cute little Horo

I will not be participating this time around because I've already seen everything on the list AND it's my birthday weekend so I'm gonna watch stuff I actually want to. (and probably be pretty drunk) I will highly recommend watching Kemono no Souja Erin! Best show of 2009 IMO.

2 Days out of 4 of my Anime-Planet Christmas Marathon

So I started a little marathon event for Christmas on Anime-Planet where members get together and choose from the list provided and try to out watch each other within the 4 days. I choose the following from the festive list:

1. Itsudatte My Santa!
2. Princess Tutu
3. A Little Snow Fairy Sugar
4. Cooking Master Boy
5. Popotan

I have finished all but Cooking Master Boy as I plan on starting that later with my bf when he gets home.

Itsudatte My Santa! - .5/5 DO NOT WATCH!!! I can't express that enough... It was so bad. I thought it was just going to be a lame story about a boy who hated Christmas because his parents were never around and they had the balls to name him Santa because he was born on the 25th. What I got was a terrible boring story along those lines but it had a super annoying chick in it that was painful to not only look at but to listen to as well. Then they made a second episode that had NOTHING to do with the first one..... *sigh*

Princess Tutu - 2/5 I can see how this anime would appeal to some people but I found it dry and boring. It had great potential but it just didn't turn out well. Generally I love weird twisted stories about fairy tales but Princess Tutu took the fun out of it by being too serious for it's own good when everything surrounding it was so absurdly awkward and quirky. I will say that the animation was lovely to see. It was outside of the normal way of anime animation and it was a nice change. The classical music soundtrack as well. I think if it wasn't for the music I wouldn't have made it through this anime... although the music might have added to the sleepy effect I had while watching.

Pepper, Salt, and Sugar are fairies.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar - 2/5 Watching this right after Princess Tutu probably wasn't the best of choices but I did it anyway. Surprisingly it went by much faster than Tutu did. This anime was about fairies that are training to become a certain kind of fairy. Sun, wind, snow and so on. They train in the human world and they meet Saga who can for some reason see them. They have to plant seeds and then find a"twinkle" to make them bloom... yeah it was that exciting. But for a true moe experience this show was right up there. My oddest complaint about this series was that Saga took a LOT of baths. For something that was so innocent it almost seemed like they were trying hard to make it a fanservice of some sort. But then again maybe that's just me. There were at least 10 bath scenes in a 24 episode show about fairies and innocence. I certainly hope there are no weird creepy otaku out there that would fap to such a cute show... I hope.

Hot spring episode.

Popotan - 2/5 Ecchi, ecchi, ecchi... For a while at least. Then suddenly out of no where it turns super serious. WTF and then just ends... There isn't much more to say about this... It oddly had a Christmas feel to it but that only was because it was about a house that was a Christmas shop too, that transported around from place to place...

Lets just say after all that mediocre stuff I hope Cooking Master Boy will be awesome.

To Heart Journey

As my ever going quest to finish off a certain someones "lists" from Anime-Planet it has once again brought me to dreaded anime that I know are going to be terrible. Yes I went into starting To Heart thinking it was going to be bad and boring. I hate it when I'm right. Simply knowing an anime comes from a Visual Novel I am always very weary of it's quality. Especially of the Eroge type.

To Heart follows the oh so boring school adventures of Hiroyuki Fujita. His dry and lame personality make fans of this type of anime (school romance) cringe. Why can't he ever be happy with the situation he is in?? MILLIONS of other men would love to be in his shoes but he simply just doesn't care and wanders around in this anime world oblivious to everything. Oh I can't forget to mention his token best oblivious friend Masashi Sato is along for the ride as well. A pointless character to I can only assume is there to try and make Hiroyuki look good.

Right here these typical cliche characters are driving me insane. If it's not the eye rolling I do from seeing Hiroyuki oh the screen it's the cringing I do when Masashi is around as well. Painful as it might be I continue onward to meet the oh so many girls of this anime. I'll never understand why there are so many more girls in these kind of anime than boys. I'm pretty sure Hiroyuki Fujita & Masashi Sato are the only real male classmates in the school. There is one other science older male that shows up later on but aside from him the male presents in this show is lacking. I think it would be interesting to have a school full of few females and see all the weird quirks of the males for once. Cause almost ALL of the girls in To Heart are really weird in their own "special" way.

Now for the meaningless girls. Akari Kamigishi is the one that has the awesome life goal of wanting to sit beside Hiroyuki in class and sadly gets her wish so she must now make a new life goal. This of course is to always be with Hiroyuki and all that lovely romance crap. Painful to watch her go through school with one little goal such as this. Shiho Nagaoka is her best friend that is always fighting with the boys. She is your typical tomboy and will eventually start to have feelings that she just isn't sure what to do with for "someone" uhh ohhh love triangle. But don't worry it'll all work out in the end. It always does right?

Now like with every other school romance there are lots, lots more characters running around or well just being in the way. I didn't care for any of the other ones and frankly they aren't really worth mentioning. There's your quiet one, your rich one, the animal lover, sisters, and so on. Although I should mention Multi because somewhere along the lines the anime did take a sudden RANDOM turn to her for the simple need, that I assume the creators had, for an android. Yup that's right she's a robot that looks, acts, and talks like a human...... WTF?

Now I wish I could say well yeah they made a short little story and that's it that's all. To Heart has 2 more seasons along with 3 different ova's.... Help It was hard enough getting through this one to have to dread sitting through more. To Heart: Remember My Memories will be next. Oh and this show gets a 3/10.....
