This year I finally sat down and watched ALL of the Macross titles. Why I put them off for so long is really a mystery to me but I'm very glad I've finally watched them all. I had a great time doing so and Macross is totally a highlight anime wise for me this year.
#1 Macross Plus
I have Macross Plus to thank for getting me more into anime so how this couldn't be my number one would just be silly. To this day I think I've seen it about 30+ times and I never tire of it. I've actually watched it twice this year so far and I might make it a third over the holidays. Everything about it is glorious to me and there's no telling me otherwise.
#2 Super Dimensional Fortress Macross
I would kill to see this one updated with new animation. Don't get me wrong here, the animation for back then was amazing but it certainly doesn't age well with newer fans who have Frontier to feast upon. The series had a movie made up condensing what happened in the series called Do You Remember Love. This movie was one of the best movie adaptations from a series I have ever seen. It was perfect. Who would have thought that singing (along with some pew pew action) to save the galaxy would be such a hit among fans.
#3 Macross Zero
Ah! The story were it all began. Words really can't describe how much I loved this ova. It was the perfect length for what it wanted to tell and the characters were just amazing. It is also one of the prettiest animations I have ever seen. My next viewing of this ova shall be downstairs on my big TV. Not on a tiny computer monitor.
#4 Macross Frontier
Team Sheryl FTW! Frontier was very enjoyable to watch and I honestly can't wait to view it again. I'll probably watch it again just before the next movie comes out of it. While a lot of it was different from what I expected, there was a lot of the same feelings I had gathered from the other series and melded into this one.
#5 Macross 7
Oh where to begin with this one. There was so much love hate going on in this series it was just too funny at times. The glorious Flower Girl to totally hating on Basara and rooting for Gamlin instead. There was much to be desired from the show and much was also given to the viewer weather they wanted it or not. Macross 7 is the longest series of them all and also has 2 ova's and one movie attached to it. I gotta say that the Macross 7 Encore ova was more enjoyed by me than the whole series. The Fleet of Strongest Women episode was the best ever where the movie The Galaxy is Calling Me was the worst of the bunch and offended me greatly. Dynamite 7 only mildly offended me since it resembled Star Trek Movie IV so much. Yes, that is the one with the whales.
#6 Macross II
I honestly need to re-watch this one because I think it might just be in the #5 spot instead of here, but I can't really remember much about it since I think I rush watched it... I did end up rating it 8/10 so I obviously enjoyed it or something.
I can't wait till the next Macross Frontier movie comes out sometime next year. ^__^

365 Days of Anime Characters: Day 186/365 Sheryl Nome
Day 186/365
From the anime Macross Frontier, Sheryl Nome is a super popular pop idol from Macross Galaxy fleet who is known as the "Galactic Fairy". Sheryl recognizes the singing talent of Ranka Lee and helps her from the background as she focuses on her own career. Both girls eventually become intertwined with the fight against the Vajra. She also becomes a possible love interest for Alto Saotome, a skilled variable fighter pilot.
Why I like her: I liked the realistic way her character was done. Up in the air confidence just to have it shattered only to make the best out of it and keep on going. Her hair is really pretty too... lol
Why I hate her: At first she was a grade A bitch, but that slowly went away as time went on and she was brought back down to reality.
Overall: Team Sheryl FTW!

Macross 7 The Flower Girl
What was her point exactly? I don't think anyone really knows honestly. She was just there in every single episode trying to give her flowers to Basara. Why? I guess to describe a devoted fan or something. Which I can relate to because I sat through Macross 7. I'm not saying the show is terrible, but considering how amazing the other series have been in the Macross franchise, I'd definitely say it was the weakest by far. Macross 7 basically lets loose and it lets the viewer know it.
Flower Girl really is amazing. She even managed to be a part of the specials Macross 7 put out.
I was amazed when I went through every episode of Macross 7 that she was in every single episode. There was a lot of down time or what?! Most of the time she was in a crowd waiting to hear Fire Bomber in a concert. Or she had her mouth opened in awe. I still can't figure out why she was there in the first place. Maybe because the creators thought she was a funny addition to the show that she was put in there. After all who doesn't like to play "Where's Wally" (Waldo in the USA) while watching tv?

Little does she know how close she came to having her Spiritia drained. Too much love for Basara is a bad thing it seems!
Episode 31 didn't physically have her in the episode but she was in every picture that was taken of Basara for a magazine. Personally I think that's just a tad creepy and I wonder why there wasn't a little blurb about her in those magazines for being #1 fan. If the writers really wanted to be creative I think they should have done that. Why else was so much time invested in her?
Episode 45 something pretty big happens, but how our little Flower Girl knows about what just happened is a mystery to me. I really liked how such a little movement in her eyebrows can show such a deeper emotion of sadness.
Episode 49 the moment we were all waiting for in one way or another.
So after all that our sweet little Flower Girl accomplishes her sole purpose in Macross 7 and Basara tosses them aside! After all he did have slightly more important things to do.
Flower Girl is what happens when the writers are up at 4am in the morning brainstorming on no sleep. I can't say I enjoyed her character a lot because well... She was weird filler. I don't hate her as much as I did in the beginning either. At first it was like "Oh go away already Flower Girl." but it soon turned into "Will she do it this episode?" or "When will she show up and how?" It gave me something else to look forward to while watching Macross 7. I generally blocked everything out that didn't have to do with Gamlin or Max anyway. I don't understand why Flower Girl likes Basara so much but then again I was never a fan of his myself. Fans do crazy things!
Flower Girl proves she is #1 fan! Only #1 fans go to those limits for their obsession. Weather it's collecting everything and anything the person put out or watching/going to every single show. In a way, Flower Girl is like a lot of anime fans. Sometimes it's nice to obsess over one thing and learn all you can about it and own as much as you can.
