On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me,
Four Vancouver Anime Moments,
Three Anime Games,
and Legend of the Galactic Heroes Keychains
Clearly as these 12 days posts are going along it is obvious that I'm just making most of the things that happened to me this year kinda relate to anime. Don't worry though there are some posts that will actually be about anime for the anime. heh
For a well deserved vacation this year the boyfriend and I went to Vancouver to visit a friend that normally comes to us during the summer. A Toronto friend of ours came along with us too since he generally shows up here during that time as well. Double the friend pleasure in a new place!! I had been to Vancouver once before so I was looking forward to returning, especially since this time was with the boyfriend. We did a lot of things and had a really good time. There were of course some very high ups, hello going to a brewery, and some downs, hello being late for the flight home thus costing us an extra $500 we didn't have... But all in all the visit rocked and I do look forward to going back for another visit. Maybe next time I'll make some effort to meet some of the twitter folk out there I "know". 😛
During the flight there and back the bf and I decided to watch Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. He didn't watch it with me when it aired so he thought it was something he should finally get around to watching. I'm not the hugest fan of the show since I only thought it was ok, but I was all for a re-watch because maybe it would change my mind about it or something. Hilariously enough before we even got started on Madoka we ended up watching a few inflight movies. So we never ended up finishing off the series and will likely have to start again because I think we left off around ep 6 or 8, I honestly can't remember and neither can he. Maybe we'll just watch the movies instead!
There's this street in Vancouver that we frequently walked by during our visit. It was called Haro Street. So of course every time I walked by and saw the street sign I would say Haro Haro like Haro does in Gundam. The boyfriend nor my friends aren't Gundam fans so they never really understood why I did this every time. I did explain to them but they were just like "...ok..." But well it amused me and hopefully it amuses you Gundam fans too. Teehehehe~
While we were out and about the boyfriend really wanted me to get something special or well anything at all. I didn't want to spend extra money on things like that because money was tight enough since we were already on this trip, so I only really wanted to splurge on food and beverages. He was very insistent though. Our friend took us shopping several days and one of those days we ended up in a comic shop that sold lots of anime goods. I enjoy going in these stores but generally just look around and leave without anything. I didn't even see the mug sitting on the shelf honestly, the boyfriend did though and was like "I'M GETTING YOU THIS!" I tried to say no but he insisted. I now have this very adorable Natsume Yuujinchou mug with Nyanko-sensei on it and it brings me much joy when I drink tea out of it. 🙂
I've been an Anime-Planet member now for many, many years. Sothis and I have been good friends for most of those years but we never meet in the flesh before. Since she lives in Seattle and was coming up to Canada for a weekend while I was actually in Vancouver, we just couldn't pass up this chance to meet. We went to lunch at this adorable little place and chatted away while a venus flytrap trap sat upon our table listening in. Anime, manga, video games, life and anything else that was on our minds was talked about! Eventually we moved on to her hotel where she checked into a crazy huge room. It was like... bigger than the apartment I was staying at while visiting Vancouver! We then moved down to the hotel restaurant/bar (which was an adventure of its own trying to find it) where many drinks were consumed and eventually our significant others and my friends showed up. A few more drinks later more talk about anime, video games and music, it was time to say good-bye. Twas very nice meeting her and I'm sure another meeting is somewhere else in our future.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is a fun show and it's a show that looks very good. The girls in this show have 2 main outfits since it does have a magical girl theme going on but I'll only be looking at what they wear when in school.
I really like the simple black and white with a red bow as an accent colour for their uniforms. I don't find this bow boring either and generally I dislike them for some reason. I think it's the cute little ties because they are thin instead of being fat. I really like the plaid skirts and enjoy that the girls get to wear whatever kind of socks they see fit. I'm partial to Madoka's thigh highs. If I had to choose one thing not to like about the outfit it would be the shirt cuffs. They are just big and kinda bulky in my opinion. But those cute little pockets and shoulder poofs are awesome. I don't have a picture of it but the back of the shirts have another bow but this one is small and white. It's right in the middle of the back which I think would be annoying to sit in a chair with but it does look adorable so maybe that tiny bit of pain is worth it in the end.
The girl gym attire is pretty typical stuff but I like how classy they look. Boys aren't featured in this show very much but you see them often enough in the background to get a good look at what they get to wear to school. I like these white uniforms a lot because they aren't as generic as a typical black one we see in most anime when it comes to boy uniforms.
Overall: I really like these uniforms and would totally wear either.
PS: I'm still figuring out how I want these posts to go so expect improvements as I go on with this project. ^__^
This winter we got 20 shows. Quite a bit more from last years 12 or so. All shows that aired were watched. There are a few ova's that I didn't pick up but that's not an issue since they are related to series I haven't seen yet. Everyone should know by now that I make it a yearly goal to watch all anime that airs in the year. I've been doing that for the last 3 years. I find it pretty fun and it makes these posts awesome. Anyway onward with winter aired anime!
Winter is either really fun or kind of meh. Unlike the last 2 years this year I didn't get a 10/10 anime that aired which I found a little weird because pretty much every season I get one of those... "Everyone's" top anime of the year/decade came out. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica was fun but I just couldn't get into it as much as everyone else. I do however love Kyubey very very much. I'd make a contract! ／人◕ ‿‿ ◕人＼
Suite Pretty Cure has jumped to the top of the pretty cure franchise for me. It's quite awesome and exceeded my high expectations that Heartcatch created. I only hope that the upcoming Smile can match the awesomeness that has become Pretty Cure! <3 Siren!
Best Show of winter is Level E. It did wonderful things in a hilarious way. I laughed a lot. I only wish that it could have been longer. It needed just a little extra bit of something to be amazing. All the characters were really great. The show almost seemed like it was a parody of sorts for Men in Black since it was about aliens on earth but no one else knows about them.
Worst Show of winter is without a doubt is the oh so terrible Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne... So bad that most people watched this show with sccsav while drinking because that was the only possible way to get through this show. Unless you are me of course! Everything about this show is offensive...
Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of winter 2011:
- Level E 8/10
- Suite Pretty Cure 8/10
- Wolverine 8/10
- Fractale 8/10
- Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica 7/10
- Beelzebub (still airing) 7/10
- Gosick 7/10
- Kore wa Zombie desu ka? 7/10
- Supernatural The Animation 7/10
- Kimi ni Todoke 7/10
- Dream Eater Merry 6/10
- Freezing 6/10
- Mitsudomoe 5/10
- Cardfight!! Vanguard (still airing) 5/10
- Infinite Stratos 5/10
- Rio: Rainbow Gate 5/10
- Wandering Son 4/10
- Dragon Crisis 3/10
- Starry Sky 2/10
- Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne 1/10
Surprise enjoyment: Supernatural The Animation was quite enjoyable. It probably helps a lot that I haven't seen the American show it originally is. I really like that ED. Beelzebub started off pretty weak but after a while I sank in and started to really like the characters.
Surprise fail: Gosick I honestly expected much more from. Sure it has a pass rating from me but I really just wanted to be wow'd by it and that never happened.
Honorable mentions: Rio: Rainbow Gate! Sharks, Gambling, and boobs! Fractale is a show everyone hated on but I still got a lot of enjoyment out of it regardless. Wolverine was super fun and Landon agrees! Wandering Son is my most hated noitaminA show. The only one I hate actually. Which is hilarious because everyone loves it.
On the Sixth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me,
Six Top Tier Anime,
Five Nyanpire Kitties,
Four Marvel Anime,
Two Anime Buddy Challenges,
and an Underrated Anime
Love them all, hate them all, or like a few but meh the others. (I heart the first 3 and appreciate the last 3) Whatever your choice is these are the top shows that people chattered away about all year long while they were airing and STILL talk about well after they have finished.
I already shared my love of this movie here. Everyone should watch it even if they aren't into racing.
I hate kids but when circumstances are out of the box from a normal 2 parent loving family I have some interest. I didn't expect to "dawww" as much as I did when watching this show but well, when a show can make you think back to those good times as a child it's doing something right.
Way better than I expected it to be considering it's not so good "sister" series Chaos;Head. Tu~tu~ruuu~
