Review of 2010 Anime Part 2 ~Spring~

Like always there was a lot of shows to watch in spring. 24 shows aired and out of that I watched 21. (Well 20 see below) Sometimes the amount scares me that I'm able to keep up with. Thankfully there were a handful of treasures in spring that I was highly looking forward to. There were 6 season "2" shows airing and I watched half of those. Here we go with Spring's Aired Anime.

Baseball

Boobs and Ass

Only Ikkitousen, Major and Jewelpet weren't watched due to all being related to series I haven't even touched yet. I actually can't wait to get my hands on Ikkitousen. I know it's a boob filled, poorly adapted, Romance of the Three Kingdoms knock off but the fan inside me tells me I must watch it at some point. Now that all has aired I think I'll tackle it for next year. Major I'm still afraid of since it's about baseball... Which is funny cause the S2 of Ookiku Furikabutte aired as well which I enjoyed a great deal.

I've always enjoyed spring because there's always plenty of shows to sink my teeth into. Amazingly all are finished airing but 2. SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors and Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri. Long titles are long but worth sitting down and watching if you A: Like the idea of Gundam chibis being ROTK characters or B: Like magical girls who sing. I obviously am in love with SD Gundam way more than Lilpri but both are pretty awesome watches.

The Five Leaves group

Best Show of spring for me was House of Five Leaves. I looked forward to a new episode every week. I drooled over the OP and the art just about made me cum in my pants. It was a lovely slow show about an adorable shy samurai with his bandit buddies. SO GOOD. I gotta re-watch and review it to gush more because it deserves more love.

Worst Show of spring for me aside from Kiss x Sis because I dropped that show like a smelly cat shit down the toilet... Anyway the worst show was Angel Beats. I tried REALLY hard to like it but KEY... I fucking hate you KEY. They can't do anything right. I vowed not to watch anymore of their crap releases ever again but I made an exception for this one because it wasn't made from a VN. It was new but still failed prey to the usual crap KEY puts out. >.<

ewww >.<

Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of spring 2010:

  1. House of Five Leaves 10/10
  2. SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors (still airing) 10/10
  3. Arakawa Under the Bridge 9/10
  4. Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin 9/10
  5. Senkou no Night Raid 8/10
  6. Tatami Galaxy 8/10
  7. Giant Killing 7/10
  8. Ookiku Furikabutte 7/10
  9. Koihime Musou 7/10
  10. Working 7/10
  11. Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan 6/10
  12. Hime Chen! Otogi Chikku Idol Lilpri (still airing) 5/10
  13. Kaichou wa Maid-sama 5/10
  14. Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou 4/10
  15. K-On 4/10
  16. Heroman 4/10
  17. B Gata H Kei 3/10
  18. Mayoi Neko Overrun 3/10
  19. Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru 3/10
  20. Angel Beats 2/10
  21. Kiss x Sis (DROPPED) 1/10

Surprise enjoyment: Giant Killing is about soccer... I'm not a sports person let along a soccer one but this one grabbed me. It wasn't the sport it's self but more so the characters striving for their dreams. It was great fun reading both Shinmaru and Emperor J posts on this wonderful show.

Surprise fail: Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru... I hate "yaoi" series that are like this. All the drama with none of the meat to back it up. I'll stick with those weird yaoi ova's that come out every now and then. At least I get to see sex there.

Honorable mentions: Rainbow started off very rough and tough. The imagery alone was enough to make you wanna cry. It was a really dark anime about boys sent to prison and how insane it was in there for them. It got more uplifting by the end of the series but still kicked you in the balls every chance it got. Heroman... Just exactly what was that? Senkou no Night Raid everyone dismissed after the first episode. But honestly I thought it was great!

365 Days of Anime Characters: Day 188/365 Otome Tsuzuki

Day 188/365

Otome Tsuzuki

From the anime Mayoi Neko Overrun, Otome Tsuzuki is the owner of the Stray Cats store, and the person who adopted Takumi. Oddly she sucks at making cakes but her store is popular because the boys like to come and see her (big boobs). She is super kind hearted and always lends a hand to others even if that takes her away from the store for long periods of time.

Why I like her: She owns that cake shop. I'd like to do that too.

Why I hate her: I don't really hate her, but I don't care about her either.

Overall: This show had potential but totally failed for me. Too much nothing going on and when a secondary character is the most interesting to me it's never a good sign.

First Impressions of Spring Anime Batch 4

I've been a little slow at getting around to these ones for the season but here they are. If you wish to check out more impressions of spring anime you can go here. I'll be making 2 more posts of impressions so you can look forward to those. Each anime is reviewed on the first 2 episodes of the series.

Yuki is a typical bishie

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru AKA Betrayal Knows My Name

Yuki has some sort of supernatural power that he can see people's pasts and emotions. He dreams of a past that he was part of quite often and wonders just why he was put in this world because he was abandoned as a child then randomly a man appears claiming to be his brother. Oh the bishie yaoi story is full of fantasy and mystery ain't it. More like teen angst trying to figure out his place in the world. I'll look forward to what will become of little Yuki but I wish it wasn't so slow. It felt like each episode was an hour long and it seems to be trying very hard to be interesting but falls flat right now.

Shiny eyes

The graphics are very pretty and make the show more interesting than it really is. The OP is well... Emo to me and the ED is just ok.

Why does the show have to revolve around YOU!

Mayoi Neko Overrun

The male lead I already want to kill. Did he really have to introduce every character in the show one by one like that in the first episode? Ahh his voice pisses me off too. While I do enjoy the cat aspect of this show and the food, (Both being things I totally love) I can't get over everything else that is so bad. Everything has been done before in this show and well some new stuff do it better some do it worse. This one is definitely doing things worse and reminds me just why I hate harem's so much. Everything is just so generic.

Cooking time!

School time!

I wish the show focused more on the Stray Cats pastry shop than it does because to me that is the unique part and the most interesting. Harem anime will always be character driven though so we won't see much development in the other aspects of the show. Anyway I don't really have much else to say. Animation is average, OP and ED are forgettable like most from harem anime are. Cat girls are fun.

Beautiful

Sarai-ya Goyou AKA House of Five Leaves

Right away the show dives into the OP and I really enjoyed that. The music mixed with the lovely unique design was very beautiful. We follow Akitsu Masanosuke, a skilled and loyal swordsman but he has just one problem. He's very timid and this gets him fired from many of his protecting jobs. After all you gotta look and be scary in order to protect people right? Lucky him the leader of a bandit group called The Five Leaves hires him to be his bodyguard. But what the leader is of course trying to do is get Akitsu to join The Five Leaves group too. The only problem is that Akitsu isn't quite alright with the groups way of making money. Kidnapping isn't all that noble after all. There's adventure to it and that draws Akitsu to this group I think.

Everything in this show has a purpose

The Five Leaves group

I find this show very refreshing. It's a real down to earth samurai show with mystery and great characters. Even the nobody's in the show seem to have a purpose. I look forward to seeing this story fold out. This is one of the best shows of spring anime for me.
