On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me, Four Vancouver Anime Moments

On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me,
Four Vancouver Anime Moments,
Three Anime Games,
Two Avatars,
and Legend of the Galactic Heroes Keychains

Clearly as these 12 days posts are going along it is obvious that I'm just making most of the things that happened to me this year kinda relate to anime. Don't worry though there are some posts that will actually be about anime for the anime. heh

For a well deserved vacation this year the boyfriend and I went to Vancouver to visit a friend that normally comes to us during the summer. A Toronto friend of ours came along with us too since he generally shows up here during that time as well. Double the friend pleasure in a new place!! I had been to Vancouver once before so I was looking forward to returning, especially since this time was with the boyfriend. We did a lot of things and had a really good time. There were of course some very high ups, hello going to a brewery, and some downs, hello being late for the flight home thus costing us an extra $500 we didn't have... But all in all the visit rocked and I do look forward to going back for another visit. Maybe next time I'll make some effort to meet some of the twitter folk out there I "know". 😛

During the flight there and back the bf and I decided to watch Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. He didn't watch it with me when it aired so he thought it was something he should finally get around to watching. I'm not the hugest fan of the show since I only thought it was ok, but I was all for a re-watch because maybe it would change my mind about it or something. Hilariously enough before we even got started on Madoka we ended up watching a few inflight movies. So we never ended up finishing off the series and will likely have to start again because I think we left off around ep 6 or 8, I honestly can't remember and neither can he. Maybe we'll just watch the movies instead!

There's this street in Vancouver that we frequently walked by during our visit. It was called Haro Street. So of course every time I walked by and saw the street sign I would say Haro Haro like Haro does in Gundam. The boyfriend nor my friends aren't Gundam fans so they never really understood why I did this every time. I did explain to them but they were just like "...ok..." But well it amused me and hopefully it amuses you Gundam fans too. Teehehehe~

While we were out and about the boyfriend really wanted me to get something special or well anything at all. I didn't want to spend extra money on things like that because money was tight enough since we were already on this trip, so I only really wanted to splurge on food and beverages. He was very insistent though. Our friend took us shopping several days and one of those days we ended up in a comic shop that sold lots of anime goods. I enjoy going in these stores but generally just look around and leave without anything. I didn't even see the mug sitting on the shelf honestly, the boyfriend did though and was like "I'M GETTING YOU THIS!" I tried to say no but he insisted. I now have this very adorable Natsume Yuujinchou mug with Nyanko-sensei on it and it brings me much joy when I drink tea out of it. 🙂

One of 3 pictures that were taken while meeting Sothis. Hilariously enough none are of the both of us XD HELLS YEAH HORSE STATUE MADE TO GO SWIMMING! Found at the hotel she was staying at.

I've been an Anime-Planet member now for many, many years. Sothis and I have been good friends for most of those years but we never meet in the flesh before. Since she lives in Seattle and was coming up to Canada for a weekend while I was actually in Vancouver, we just couldn't pass up this chance to meet. We went to lunch at this adorable little place and chatted away while a venus flytrap trap sat upon our table listening in. Anime, manga, video games, life and anything else that was on our minds was talked about! Eventually we moved on to her hotel where she checked into a crazy huge room. It was like... bigger than the apartment I was staying at while visiting Vancouver! We then moved down to the hotel restaurant/bar (which was an adventure of its own trying to find it) where many drinks were consumed and eventually our significant others and my friends showed up. A few more drinks later more talk about anime, video games and music,  it was time to say good-bye. Twas very nice meeting her and I'm sure another meeting is somewhere else in our future.

Review of 2012 Anime Part 1 ~Winter~

Yet another winter came and went. 24 shows to choose from this time! I always like to watch everything in a year so all was watched yet again unless special circumstances apply! Doing these posts is always super fun with more anime to talk about anyway! Onward with winter aired anime!

King Poyopoyo

Winter this time around gave me a whole lot of anime that I enjoyed. I didn't watch a lot of them till after they were finished airing since I needed an anime break after the holidays. I'll likely do the same this year honestly. I like how it ends up working out for me. Doing things this way puts me even further away from people in the aniblogsphere and on twitter but ehhh I'm finding it harder and harder over the years to want to dive right back into new anime at the start of a new year.

Smile Pretty Cure started but I'm sad to say it didn't live up to my expectations so I'm not too happy about that. At least watching my backlog of Yes, Pretty Cure fills the bill in awesome. The New Prince of Tennis and Danball Senki W weren't watched because I haven't seen any of the rest of their franchises. Someday I hope to get around to PoT but I'm in no hurry to watch a billion episodes of tennis.  Amagami SS+I saved myself the trouble with and didn't watch it. I wasn't a fan of the first season and that was way longer than this one. Enough is enough of that for me!

Thermae Romae I have a hard time classifying as a TV show rather than a TV special since it was only 3 episodes. I'd put it at #3 if I did include it though. Man that show was so manly and hot.

You are still awesome~

Best Show of winter is Natsume Yuujinchou Shi because obviously Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki is the show of the year! 2 anime that have awesome cats in it at the top of my list? Can I get anymore predictable?!

Worst Show of winter is Kill Me Baby. I don't understand how anyone could have liked this show... From a terrible OP and ED to ugly characters to ANNOYING AS FUCK characters... Yeah it clearly wasn't made for someone like me.

Assassins in school should be funny...

Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of winter 2012:

  1. Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki (still airing) 10/10
  2. Natsume Yuujinchou Shi 10/10
  3. Ano Natsu de Matteru / Waiting in the Summer 9/10

  19. High School DxD 3/10
  20. Area no Kishi / The Knight in the Area 3/10
  21. Kill Me Baby 2/10

Surprise enjoyment: Inu x Boku SS honestly wasn't on my radar. Even better that the bf completely loved it too! Ano Natsu de Matteru romance, drama, drama, and aliens... Yup it found it's way into my heart!

Surprise fail: Mouretsu Pirates still pisses me off and I honestly just don't want to talk about it anymore... Another turned out to be... Another horror anime gone hilariously wrong.

Honorable mentions: Senki Zesshou Symphogear LISTEN TO MY SONG! Area no Kishi SO GLAD YOU GOT CANCELLED! Aquarion Evol HOLES!

366 Days of Anime School Uniforms: Day 152/366 Natsume Yuujinchou

Day 152/366

Natsume Yuujinchou is about a boy who can see spirits and other strange things making his typical teenager life hard sometimes.

I love this show and really enjoy the fact that it's a supernatural anime that keeps the simple and ordinary part of life so real. These uniforms are your standard kind for both genders. Even when the show is trying to be different with the girl uniforms they still all look the same in that typical sailor suit kind of way just... With different colours! It's wonderful in a strange kind of way!

Overall: Meh don't care either way.

Review of 2011 Anime Part 3 ~Summer~

Summer anime was another full plate with 27 shows. I watched 26 of them because MonHun Nikki Girigiri Airu Mura G was a S2 to a show that only had 3 episodes subbed from its S1. Someday I hope they'll appear. Kinda like how I'm still waiting for more Gag Manga Biyori. I always feel quite accomplished when I can load up Anime-Planets seasonal anime screen and view everything marked as watched~

Just looking at this picture offends me...

Ro-Kyu-Bu is easily the worst show I have watched all year long. While Onii-chan from winter was terrible indeed, it didn't fill me with nearly as much rage as Ro-Kyu-Bu did when I forced myself to sit through each and every episode. It's not even that the show is about lolibasketball. It's more the way it looks... Reminds me of CLANNAD! >.<

Cats in yukatas are cute!

Best Show of summer is obviously Nyanpire. Kitties doing cute things! That ED is the best ever!

Worst Show of summer is aside from Ro-Kyu-Bu because that's the worst anime to air this year, would be Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi. Did anyone seriously even like this show? So bad.

Gee I wonder what's happened behind that bar of light?!

Here's my big list of Best to Worst shows of summer 2011:

  1. Nyanpire 10/10
  2. Natsume Yuujinchou 3 10/10
  3. Bunny Drop 9/10
  4. Blade 8/10
  5. No. 6 8/10
  6. Dantalian no Shoka 8/10
  7. Yuru Yuri 8/10
  8. R-15 8/10
  9. Kamisama no Memo-chou 8/10
  10. Nekogami Yaoyorozu 8/10
  11. Baka to Test to Shoukanju 2 8/10
  12. Nurarihyon no Mago 2 7/10
  13. Mawaru Penguin Drum 7/10
  14. Kamisama Dolls 7/10
  15. Manyuu Hiken-chou 7/10
  16. Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel: Kyun Kyun Tokimeki Paradise!! 6/10
  17. Ikoku Meiro no Croisée 6/10
  18. Sacred Seven 6/10
  19. Blood-C 5/10
  20. Mayo Chiki 5/10
  21. Double-J 5/10
  22. The [email protected] 4/10
  23. Morita-san wa Mukuchi 4/10
  24. Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000% 3/10
  25. Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi 2/10
  26. Ro-Kyu-Bu 1/10

Surprise enjoyment: R-15, Manyuu Hiken-chou, & Nekogami Yaoyorozu all did something weird for me in a good way. Most people didn't enjoy these shows but I found myself hooked. Anime about porn writers, cat Gods, and AMAZING boobs are fun things for anime to look at when your only goal is to have fun.

Surprise fail: I actually had serious hopes that Twin Angel would be good. The ova was so why couldn't the series be? ;__; Even though I gave Baka to Test to Shoukanju 2 a high rating I was still pretty disappointed with it like most people were. They should have kept to what they were doing right from S1, although honestly S2 isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Honorable mentions: No. 6 DAT KISS. Blood-C DAT BIMBO. Mawaru Penguin Drum DAT PENGUIN.

~A Look at Anime to Come~ Winter 2012

There is only one anime everyone needs to concern themselves with coming up in winter 2012.

 Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki!

That is all...

Seriously though I'm also looking forward to a grand total of 5 other anime that will be airing. Another (Looks interesting), Brave10 (Could be good), Daily Lives of High School Boys (Because I'll need something to fill the Kimi to Boku void),  Mouretsu Pirates (Fuck yeah!), and Season 4 of Natsume Yuujinchou!

There's also an awesome OVA adaptation of one of my all time favourite manga coming out sometime in February (hopefully) called Gyo. It kicks ass and everyone should be excited for it. GASHUNK!
